Custom Instructions in Omni AI Companion

Custom Instructions let you explain how you prefer to work and communicate. A few precise preferences can make a conversation feel less like starting from zero, especially when the same context matters across many tasks.

What changed

Your preferences have a clear home

You can state tone, formatting, context, and boundaries once rather than repeating them in every conversation.

Specificity improves usefulness

Instructions work best when they describe an observable preference—such as concise bullets or plain language—instead of a vague wish to be helpful.

Why this feature matters

A student can request step-by-step explanations, a manager can ask for action items first, and a multilingual member can describe the language or tone they prefer. The benefit is a more consistent starting point, not a promise that every response will be perfect.

Review instructions as your needs change and avoid placing secrets or information you would not want used as conversational context. Check important responses yourself, particularly when a preference could conflict with the task at hand.

Feature examples and use cases

  • A repeatable format: A project lead asks for a short summary followed by risks and open questions whenever they review a plan.
  • A learning preference: A learner requests plain-language explanations followed by one practice question.
  • A communication style: A member asks for a warm, direct tone and for uncertainty to be stated clearly.

How to use it

  1. Open Edit Profile: Use Side menu → Settings → Edit Profile and find the custom instruction area.
  2. Write observable preferences: Describe tone, format, context, and boundaries with a short example of what a good response looks like.
  3. Save and test: Save the changes, start a representative conversation, and revise anything that creates confusion or is too broad.

Tips for a better first try

  • Use positive instructions such as “lead with the answer.”
  • Keep temporary project details in the project itself.
  • Revisit old instructions when your work or audience changes.

Limitations and things to know

  • Instructions guide responses but cannot guarantee every response follows them.
  • Do not add passwords, payment details, or sensitive information merely to make replies more convenient.

Availability

Available in Edit Profile when Custom Instructions is shown for your account. The fields and save behavior visible there are authoritative.
