Personalize update

Custom Omni Companions: Your Preferences, Thoughtfully Kept in Omni AI Companion

There is no single right way to enjoy time with a companion. Perhaps you like easygoing replies, thoughtful questions, or a little less advice and a little more listening. Custom Omni Companions brings your user-authored preferences into a dedicated Customize page, with room to revisit what you have already written and add new directions as your conversations develop.

What changed

A dedicated home for your Omni preferences

Choose the shared Omni instruction space to review the existing preferences about you and the response style you want. These are the user-authored fields also available in your profile, not a display of Omni's private personality or internal directions. Keeping them visible helps you notice when an old preference no longer fits and edit it with intention.

More personal directions for your custom companions

Your own non-connected custom companions can have supplemental instruction entries selected for that companion. Add a title and a direction with the plus button, revisit previous entries, and save edits without recreating their identity. Shared Omni entries can guide your ordinary chats, while companion-specific entries let you describe the particular rhythm you want with a custom companion.

Appearance and conversation now have a clearer place

The Customize menu gathers Custom Omni Companions, API Instructions, and Customize UI. Use Customize UI for themes and chat appearance, this page for your Omni directions, and API Instructions for connected-model preferences. These are distinct controls: changing a theme does not change a model, and editing an Omni preference does not silently alter an API-key companion.

Why this feature matters

A preference collection can change with you. You can keep a useful instruction, adjust an outdated one, or add something small you discovered during a conversation. Personalization becomes easier to revisit rather than a hidden setting you forget exists.

Separating account-wide preferences from custom-companion directions gives you flexibility without making every conversation identical. It also keeps connected-model instructions in their own space, where the selected model and sharing choices are clear.

Feature examples and use cases

  • Everyday conversation: In the shared Omni space, add “Use relaxed language and short paragraphs for everyday check-ins.” Keep more specific creative directions with the custom companion you use for that work.
  • A thoughtful custom companion: Choose your own custom companion and save “When I share something personal, ask before moving into advice.” Edit the instruction if you later want more practical suggestions.
  • A space that feels like yours: Refresh a saved style preference, then open Customize UI to choose an available theme. You can adjust conversation and appearance separately, without creating a new companion.

How to use it

  1. Open your instruction space: Use the hamburger menu → Customize → Custom Omni Companions. Select the shared Omni preferences or one of your own available custom companions.
  2. Keep, edit, or add: Review previous user-authored directions. Edit an existing preference, or use the plus button to add a supplemental entry with a recognizable title. Read the displayed limits and avoid conflicting instructions.
  3. Save and continue together: Save your changes and confirm the success message. The preferences guide future ordinary Omni chat requests in the applicable space, not past messages. Return to chat to see how the changes feel.

Tips for a better first try

  • Use shared entries for preferences you want across ordinary Omni chats and specific entries for your own custom companion.
  • Keep instructions focused on tone, helpful habits, and the context you are comfortable sharing.
  • Revisit saved directions occasionally; removing an outdated preference can help more than adding another one.

Limitations and things to know

  • These controls show user-authored preferences, not Omni's private system instructions. Per-field and collection bounds apply, and preferences cannot override identity or safety requirements.
  • Changes apply to future supported ordinary chat requests rather than rewriting history. API-key companions have a separate instruction page, and a saved direction does not unlock tools or experiences unavailable to your account.

Availability

Available to signed-in members under Customize → Custom Omni Companions. The shared Omni space includes your existing profile instruction fields. Companion-specific selections are your own non-connected custom companions; API-key models remain separately managed in API Instructions. Themes and appearance remain available through Customize UI.

Frequently asked questions

Will I still see my previous profile instructions?

Yes. The existing about-you and response-style preferences appear in the shared Omni space, where you can review and edit them. They remain the same user-authored preferences, not a new copy of a private companion prompt.

Can I add more than the original two profile fields?

Yes. The plus button creates additional titled instruction entries within the displayed collection limits. You can then view, edit, or remove each saved entry.

Will this change my connected API model too?

No. Use API Instructions for connected companions. The pages keep those instruction scopes separate.

Can I customize one of my own companions without affecting every chat?

Yes. Select the specific non-connected custom companion before adding its instructions. The shared Omni space is the place for broader ordinary-chat preferences.

Where did Themes move?

Open Customize → Customize UI. The theme and chat-appearance tools are still there; they now sit beside the instruction controls in the new Customize category.
